The program generally provides and develops initiatives to control and prevent the spread of HIV infection in the Keewatin Tribal Council (KTC) First Nations. The activities in that respect include the focus on reduction of the health, social and economic impacts of HIV/AIDS in the communities, encouraging and supporting the active involvement of the KTC on-reserve community in community based HIV/AIDS programming. The KTC AIDS/HIV program also identifies options/strategies for the provision of on-reserve treatment, care and support programs as needed. There is a strong emphasis to provide timely education and prevention programs in collaboration with KTC First Nations community resource workers to a variety of demographic populations, including youth in particular. Workshops are conducted also in the various First Nation Schools accordingly as per requests of KTC communities.
