George Neepin, CEO

Greetings everyone and welcome to the new KTC website.

This website is a way for you to promote any event in your community, provide program updates and any information which may be of interest to others or information you wish to have known.

It has been some time since we were able to bring information through this website. This information platform can only stay current with input and support from everyone.

We are a network of mainly remote communities, and the new website is a place to bring us together and to share information.

Its also a place to get to know your Tribal Council. We are 100% owned by each of the eleven Nations. Each Nation has an equal share, and each Nations Chief makes up our Board of Directors.

Your Tribal Council is made up of eleven Sovereign Nations who created this organization in 1979.

In the late seventies, Indian Affairs had branch offices throughout Manitoba. They provided Local Government Advisory Services, Fire Prevention Services, Band Financial Services, Band Membership, Economic Development Program and Advisory services, Housing and Technical Services and Education.

The INAC branch office in Thompson served around 14 Nations including Pukatawagon, Cross Lake, Norway House and Nelson House.

During that period the provincial organization was known as the Manitoba Indian Brotherhood and had offices throughout Manitoba known as regions. There were two regions based in Thompson, the north and northeast regions. These are the two regions that aligned with each other to create the Keewatin Tribal Council.

The initial plan was to focus on economic development and less on assuming the services at the INAC branch office. In time the INAC offices closed and transferred some, not all of the services to the Keewatin Tribal Council.

Today the tribal council provides programs and services to the Nations. We are different from other organizations because we are service delivery and focus on development in the Nations.

There is so much that has been achieved over the years. Recently the Nations have once again asserted their original intent to focus on economic development by working together and your Tribal Council is supporting you to help achieve your goals through its work on Nation Building, Collaboration Agreements and socioeconomic plans including road feasibility, business opportunities to generate Nation revenue and working with your Grand Chief.

Our mandate is to serve and empower member Nations and their citizens.
