The objectives of this project are to locate an cultural items and historical artifacts that from the ancestral area of the Eleven Nations that are currently in institutional museum and archival holdings, identify any repatriation processes, preservation methods, and catalog for future references or possible displays. The history and culture of Northern Manitoba is the history of indigenous people. By preserving these cultural, traditional and items of historical significance, we provide future generations with an opportunity to learn and appreciate the richness of our heritage, and it's historical influence on the North and beyond.

Funding for this project was approved by the Museums Assistance Grant to complete the research and engagements with museum institutions. A research/acquisition lead has been contracted to achieve the project objectives. The project has engaged with the Manitoba Museum, Manitoba Archives, St. Boniface Museum and other museums to collect details on items from the Eleven Nations currently preserved in their holdings. We have received accommodating and professional support during implementation of this project and look forward to examining more and potentially historic findings as we conduct our work.
