The recruitment and retention is an ongoing issue because of the global nursing shortage. Limited public health services in the First Nation communities remains a concern as the vaccination rates are low, limited prenatal care and communicable disease rates are high. Another area that has limitations is cancer screening.

With the nursing shortage, some of the KTC Home Care nurses and Foot Care nurses have been called to help during emergency situations. Wound care was a priority for both Home and Foot Care nurses.
